I tried SnuznLuz and I ended up hitting snooze just as much as normal and losing a lot of money. I tried Clocky, the alarm clock that rolls off your table and hides when it goes off, but that became obsolete when I realised that I almost always have too much shit on my floor for it to actually roll anywhere, and my time with Clocky finally came to an end when my asleep self couldn’t find the snooze button and angrily chucked it across the room, shattering it - again, I really don’t like to be annoyed. Any alarm where the screen had to be on with the app open for the alarm to go off was instantly dismissed. I’ve tried apps where you have to solve puzzles or complete a task to snooze the alarm or turn it off, but after a few confusing trials with these apps I realised that I was shutting the phone off in my sleep as soon as the alarm went off. The other obstacle I’ve discovered is that my unconscious self is very smart, very adaptable and very motivated to stay unconscious. The new bedtime feature on the iPhone worked for a few days, but a combination of my unconscious self’s ability to hit the snooze button (what kind of alarm has an unchangeable 9 minute snooze?) and a bug that causes it to occasionally make no noise at all has taken that off the table. If I wake up annoyed I’ll hit snooze for five hours straight purely out of half-conscious spite. My biggest problem with alarm clocks, I’ve realised, is that any alarm with a loud, obnoxious, or annoying sound simply will not work. Ive spent hundreds on alarm clocks marketed towards “heavy sleepers” and all of them stopped being effective within weeks, more often within days. I can’t be woken up by any alarm clocks I’ve tried, and it’s actually starting to ruin my life. The ultimate goal is to never sleep in again. You can always turn your alarm off and let your body wake you up if you feel you need a break. Be consistent! The more days you keep these rules, the cooler you are.If you aren't using an alarm clock, you must immediately get out of bed when you first notice you wake up (exceptions allowed if you wake up much too early). When the alarm goes off, you must immediately get out of bed and not go back to sleep.Take the GetOutOfBed pledge: stop sleeping in and reclaim more precious waking hours! For people who have a hard time getting out of bed, getting good sleep, or just want to improve their sleep-or all of the above!
